[Letter and a copy of a letter to the New Lebanon, N.Y., community]. 1825-1832.

Letter dated October 9, 1825--a generally unrevealing document--concerns the Shakers' involvement in a court case occassioned by their supposed abuse of Seth Babbitt. Eight Shaker men were called to court, but the case was postponed until the spring. Most of the letter is general greetings. The letter of October 16, 1832, discusses the departure of one of the Harvard brothers, Michael, who was going to visit the Cochranites in Maine. He was not in union with the Harvard community. Reports that Elder Grove is not doing well. Also tells of an accident at the Shirley, Mass., community in which Hiram S. Grover died in a fall from the office building roof on which he had been working.
